Jonathan Elphick is a naturalist, specialising in ornithology, who has worked since 1969 as a writer, editor and consultant for many publishers, including the Natural History Museum and the BBC. He is a Scientific Fellow of the Zoological Society of London and a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. His books include The Birdwatcher’s Handbook, an award-winning BBC field guide to the birds of Britain and Ireland, Birds: The Art of Ornithology, Great Birds of Europe, and, most recently, the bestselling multimedia title Birdsong. Jonathan was researcher on two vital celebrations of the cultural importance of birds, Birds Britannica and the forthcoming Birds and People, and is currently working on a major new bird book for the NHM. Among his varied interests are the history of natural history, food and cookery, ethnomusicology, local history and the interface between science and the arts. He lives next to the Exe Estuary in Devon.
