Ronald Blythe is a celebrated novelist, essayist, literary commentator and grand old man of British letters. He has written more than 20 books including his best known, the award-winning Akenfield(1970). At 90 years of age he is still immensely active. His latest memoir, At the Yeoman’s House(Enitharmon Press, 2011), he describes as ‘a kind of poem’ on his idyllic country home, Bottengoms, which once belonged to his old friend, the artist John Nash. Ronald Blythe received the Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature in 2005 and is the President of the John Clare Society, to whom he has given an annual lecture at Helpston for the last 31 years.
