Tom Baskeyfield is a multidisciplinary visual artist interested in relationships between people, place, nature and landscape. In 2011 he was awarded an MA in Art and Environment from Falmouth University for his project Of Time in Field, in which he immersed himself in the life of a field for one crop cycle. Since 2015 Tom has been working on Shaped by Stone with photographer Mario Popham. Originally commissioned for the Barnaby Festival in Macclesfield, Shaped by Stone looks at the relationship between a hillside quarry – Tegg’s Nose – and Macclesfield Town Centre. Since then, with a grant from Arts Council England, and support from HOME.Mcr, Shaped by Stone has grown into a second installment – Of Flesh and Stone – in which Tom and Mario have been exploring the legacy of the slate industry in North Wales and its relationship to the post-industrial north of England. A publication in support of the project is planned for release at the end of 2018.
